My Garb

Blue Bliaut (2007)- This is made of cotton with purchased trim. I made this at Ceinwen's house when she held a session on making Bliauts in preparation for the upcoming Cleftlands Regular Event.

Red Bliaut (2008) - This is made of linen and the sleeves are embrodiered with black flower pattern. It's finishing the embroidery that is making this take so long!

Black kirtle (2007) - This was the first kirtle I made, sort of a test for the real thing. Lyonnete fitted me for a pattern. This is made of black cotton, and still very wearable.

Seafoam Green kirtle (2007) - After making my mock up, this was my first attempt at real garb. It's made of wool garbradine lined with white linen. I had to put in some football shapped patches in the back to make the sleeves work since I did some kind of mistake in cutting out the armstyle, but it works. I meant to go back and make long sleeves for this kirtle but never quite got to it. Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL, 2009:07:30 17:02:49 -- 1/100 sec, f/5.6. Blue Kirtle (2007) - This is made out of linen/ryaon blend. I made this kirtle at the same time as the yellow kirtle as a test to see which one would waer better. I found no difference in how they were to sew or wear. I made this one with buttons on the arms. I handmade the buttons but used the machien to make the botton holes.

Black kirtle with ragline sleeves (2009) - This kirtle is made out of linen/rayon blend and is my first attempt at ragline sleeves. It was made specifically to wear under Burgundains.

Blue cote (2008) - I made this as the overgown for the seafoam green kirtle, but I never put the long sleeves on the kirtle so good thing I made other kirtles with long sleeves I can wear this with. It's made out of blue wool gabradine with handmade bottons in the front, and tippets as the sleeves.

Red and Black Cote (2007) - This was given to me by Gold Key when the Needleworker's group met to help go through what was in Gold Key, mend things that needed to be mended and toss things that should be tossed. It was decided that this dress fit me entirely too well, and it was unlikely that anyone needing Gold Key would be able to fit into this dress. I wasn't going to turn down a well made piece of garb!

Fawn colored Wool burgundian (2008) - This is made of fawn colored wool gabradine. The color is made out of a very rich brown polyester velvet. The dress puddled so nicely when I tried it on that I just couldn't bear to hem it so I kept it long. The bottom trim is a cheaper black polyster velvet. The bottom of the dress is lined with black cotton just to protect the wool. In hind sight, I should have lined the whole piece as the wool gabardine is fairly light weight.

Red Royal Damask Houppelaunde (2009)/Red Royal Damask Burgundian (2009)
Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 2010:02:13 09:41:08 -- 1/80 sec, f/6.3. No Flash, Compulsory.5616x3744 Off. I made and error when cutting the Houppelaunde, meaning to match the direction of the fabric but still not doing so, but cutting the fabric in the same wasteful was as if I was trying to match the direction. It was a measure 5 times and cut wrong once. Luckily, I figured out that I had exactly enough fabric to also make a Burgundian. There was next to no scraps after the two gowns were made. It took a lot of percise measuring to make sure I could make both gowns. I called Joanns where I had bought the farbric and no more of that particular fabric could be found anywhere in the country. The color of the Houppelaunde is modeled after a houppeland I saw at Revival's Pennsic shop and liked. I made multiple mock-ups until I found the way to do it. I'm glad it worked out so well, I love it with the gold lining. I also like these sleeves, big, but leaves my arms free to still be able to do stuff!

KODAK Z740 ZOOM DIGITAL CAMERA, 2007:05:18 14:39:09 -- 1/60 sec, f/2.8. Flash, Auto.486x343 Silver Italin Renaissance (1999?) - This dress is my first piece of garb. I think I bought it at my first SCA event without knowing it. When I think back, there was a bunch of merchants on my college campus with one lady selling dresses, and other people selling jewerly. There were some people fighting on the Beckman lawn but I didn't pay attnetion to them. I bought this Silver Italian Renissance and a self widing gold and amber watch that hides the watch face so it looks like a bracelet. I still wonder if it was a SCA event or not, but I do believe it was.

Red Italian Renissaance (2007) - This dress is made of red cotton velvet. I purcahsed this dress from a woman who was cleaning out her closet. After purchasing the dress, I took it apart to refit the bodice for myself. I repeated the skirt so the pleats would be even and symmetrical. I embroidered all the slashes since I didn't think frey check was quite doing the job. So I sorta made this dress but not quite.

Burgundy Apron Dress (2008) - I was gifted this wool, and used every inch of it for this apron dress. The straps are lined with linen because I didn't have enough wool to make both sides wool, that shows how little is left of the fabric!

Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL, 2008:10:04 15:30:38 -- 1/800 sec, f/16.0. No Flash.3072x2048 Off. Blue T-tunic (2008) - made out of linen and embroidered at the collar and sleeves, I made a matching T-tunic for Nathan

Burgundy T-tunic (2008)- made out of cotton and trim, easier on and off dress

Green T-tunic (2008) - made out of cotton, good for cleaning up after events or wearing under my apron dress

Purple surcote (2008) - made out of linen to wear over Blue T-tunic

Green and black surcote (2007) - I made this out of cotton with green on one side and black on the other, it's made to be reversible. It doesn't get much use though, I wish I had made the "skirt" fuller. If only I had a long sleeved black kirtle to wear under it. It matches the green and black tunic I made for Nathan.

Before joining the SCA, I enjoyed making costumes to dress up in. I got the pattern for this outfit from Simplicity. It's still a stunning piece, but not actually period.

Tudor gown (2007) - This was made to wear at the wedding of Maggie and Jared in October 2007. The overgown is made out of red polyester taffeta which I got for $2/yd and lined with red cotton. The kirtle for this dress is made out of black cotton with a gold and black polyester taffata for the forepart. Cotton Duct was used in the kirtle to make a sort of stiff front.

Elizabethan skirt (2009) - This is made out of cotton-poly brocade one day when I realized that third year of medical school had sucked the life out of me and I hadn't made garb for months!

Acessories:

Red hood (2009) - I made this out of Red wool that I was gifted at some point. Unfortunatley, the wool is not dye-fast at all and I'm so afraid of wearing this hood because if it gets wet, it'll run red dye on my cothing! SO I only wear it with the red and black cote, but they do look cute together!

White cape (<2007) - This was made before I joined the SCA, as an LotR Elven cloak. Sea Foam Green Cloak - This is made of the same wool gabaradine as the kirtle. I got enough fabric to make a matching cloak. It got stained with kool-aide at Gulf Wars.

Grey wool cloak (2008) - I was gifted the fabric and it was just the right amount to make a cloak so it's just a simple half circle cloak lined with linen.

Hats:
Tudor Hood
Black velvet Henin
Viking Cap

Undercolothes:
Elizabethan "pair of bodies" of Burgundy cotton duck
shfits in cotton, linen, long sleeve, short sleeve, different necklines, etc.

Boyclothes:
I've made my husband a few T-tunics and three pairs of pants. He has a beige long-sleeved long T-tunic which I made for the first even I went to, before I knew what other people wore in the SCA. I also made him green hose hose like pants for that event which he doesn't like since they are right and fitted. He has a red cotton with black ribbon sleeveless T-tunic to match my black and red cote. I made him a black and green cotton t-tunic, a beige linen/rayon blend tunic, and a green linen/rayon blend tunic that matches my apron dress. We also have matching blue long-sleeved T-tunics with embroidery at the collar and sleeves made ouf ot linen. He has two pairs of pants, one black and one brown, both made out of linen/rayon blend, to wear with his T-tunics.
